Looking at cannabinoids: Drug Facts

Cannabinoids are substances that interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system by binding to cannabinoid receptors. They can occur naturally in the cannabis plant or be created synthetically in a laboratory, and may be derived from or chemically related to cannabis. The two most widely recognised cannabinoids are delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). This updated Drug Facts page outlines the various types of cannabinoids, their common uses, potential effects, risks when combined with other substances, and key harm-reduction considerations.

Rising hospitalisations and deaths from GHB ‘a cause for alarm’: NDARC study

GHB-related deaths have increased 10-fold since 2013, while the number of hospitalisations more than tripled, according to an Australian-first study from the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) at UNSW Sydney.

While rates of GHB use are relatively low compared to other illicit drugs such as MDMA, cocaine and methamphetamine, the proportion of Australians reportedly using GHB is rising.
